Cambridgeshire is a county in England, located on the eastern side of the country next to the counties of Lincolnshire, Suffolk, Hertfordshire and Essex. The county town is the university town of Cambridge.

It is best known of the University of Cambridge which is one of the oldest and highest ranking universities in the world. The university is made up of a series of colleges which is said to be an incidental feature rather than a deliberate one. The colleges were said to be founded so that the students that studied in them could pray for the soul of the founding scholar. This is why a lot of the colleges have a link with a church or abbey. The university as a whole however is older than any of the colleges and it is said that it dates back to as early as 1209.
A lot of the worlds most significant scientific discoveries have been made by the alumni of Cambridge University. Sir Issac Newton discovered the laws of motion, Evolution was discovered by Charles Darwin and Henry Cavendish discovered Hydrogen to name just a few! It was not until 1947 that the college admitted full time female students with the background before this time being a solely male one!
The admissions procedure for Cambridge as with Oxford is decidedly tough and applicants are expected to make additional application steps than any other university with the deadline for applications being a lot earlier. Places are offered only after a face to face interview and the university takes only the most able students applying.
